Welcome to Excel08.com My blog on the Republican National Convention.

Welcome to Xcel08.com. I live in the Twin Cities. I registered this domain name after the announcement that the Republican National Convention would be held here in the Twin Cities. This domain sale is definitely for sale if anyone cares to make an offer at greg@excel08.com

First off, If in the Twin Cites enjoy our great cities and be sure to check out the remarkable cleanup and rebuild of the I35W bridge after the the tragic August 01, 2008 collapse. The new bridge is said to be 98% complete and should be open in September. I've chronicled the progress at my http://thedailydigital.com/ The work was obviously rushed but the last I heard the project has had under a dozen all minor injuries with over a half a million work hours. This is incredibly good for a major construction project like this. This project "sets the market" for getting something done fast while keeping workers safe. It's a great side story for the convention. Again, check out my http://thedailydigital.com/ I have all the email updates and many interesting stories on the bridge rebuild posted there. Enough for a story on this remarkable rise from tragedy.

One the "insider" scoop I turned on the TV this morning. I taped the last day of the Dem Convention from C-Span. They had the tedious C-Span political call-in on and they reported that a local lefty blog reported that our Governor Palenty is probably not the candidate because he will be doing his weekly radio show today. Palenty said that on the KSTP-TV dinnertime news last night (If I have my sources straight, that's what I usually watch). That is what the media uses for information nowadays.

I have no idea who John McCain will pick. I think that Palenty is a long shot but he goes way back with McCain, back to the earlier campaigns. That's been covered by the local news extensively over the years. That the advantage of being local. I've been "on the ground" here my entire life.

We have maybe half a dozen airports here that can handle corporate jets (they will get a workout next week but they have handled the Super Bowl and baseball All Star Game in the past). Tim Palenty can be at the announce site in an hour via private jet. John McCain is just crafty enough to make the announcement a surprise. I'm rooting for Tim Palenty but it's a long shot.

Last night I was at the bar where Jessie Ventura claims he met his wife while working as a bouncer and breaking up a fight in the women's bathroom. If you really care research it. They are "hot to trot" for Republican Convention business but they are "way off Broadway".

It's a mostly cop and blue collar bar but that makes it interesting. The 2005 bar smoking ban hurt business but they have good "barely legal" accommodations for smokers. (another story angle if your in town, email me). Basically the "scoop" is that the advanced and lobbyist types are arriving in town. I was talking with a bartender at a major Minneapolis hotel and they said that a lot of these advanced types ordered multiple "Irish Car Bombs". It seems that they are basically in "game mode" and get plastered to get to sleep. It seems a variation of "If this is Tuesday it must be Belgium". They tip well and I won't "name names" but they should get out and scope out of wonderful cities. The
Twin Cities aren't "Vegas" but that is a positive.
